The opening ceremony of Sichuan provincial key laboratory (“the laboratory”) for the strategic development and utilization of rare earth resources was held in Chengdu on July 7th
The laboratory will focus on the demand for rare metal and rare earth resources from high end growth industries of new energy vehicle, aviation and gas turbine, etc. In addition, it will carry out basic research for application of mineralization and exploration evaluation, comprehensive utilization of resources, evaluation and repair and so on for the key science and technology problems met in the development and utilization of rare metal and rare earth resources in Panxi Strategic Resource Innovation and Development Pilot Zone, Ganzi and Aba, etc.
Up to now, Sichuan has held the proven lithium ore reserves of 1,887,700t, which is the world’s largest solid lithium deposit; Sichuan holds about 2.7 million tons of recoverable rare earth deposits, ranking second in China.
. It is the first provincial key laboratory for research and application of rare metal and rare earth established in Sichuan . Relying on the rare metal, the laboratory will help to speed up the development and utilization of local rare metal and rare earth resources, providing experience for the development and utilization of related resources nationwide.
