Jinan Iron and Steel starts to halt iron and steel production completely

On June 29th, the No.1 and No.3 tap holes of blast furnaces of 3,200 cubic meters of Jinan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. smoothly finished the production of last molten iron, indicating that the company which has 59 years of history started to close its production lines in Jinan. According to General Scheme on Production Halt on Major Processes of Jinan Iron and Steel, the company will spend 9 days on the production halt of all production lines in three steps safely. After the adjustment on capacities of iron and steel, the company will develop new industry, cultivate new kinetic energy and realize transformation and upgrading for sustainable development.
Founded in 1958, Jinan Iron and Steel belongs one of the first batch of local key enterprises for iron established by the People’s Republic of China. After the development of over 50 years, it becomes an extra-large enterprise integrated with iron and steel and others. As one of top 10 iron and steel enterprises in China, its annual output for steel reached over 12 million tons at most and it once became largest production base for steel plate of China. It produced 155 million tons of steel in total over 59 years and realized taxes and profits of RMB31.6 billion.
Under the context of capacity removal in iron and steel industry, Jinan Iron and Steel has gradually put capacity adjustment on agenda in recent years as it is located in an inland city and provincial capital and suffers from high logistic costs and other problems under great pressure of environmental protection.
