The Department of Land and Resources of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomus Region announced the discovery of an extra-large rare earth deposit in Dazhou mining area in Pingnan county, Guangxi province after four years’ exploration, which was granted the Top 10 Geology & Mineral Prospecting Achievement Award in 2016 by the Geological Society of China.
It is said that the general exploration of rare earth ore in Dazhou mining area in Pingnan county, which is part of the third batch of 2010 Large-Scale Geology & Mineral Prospecting & Exploitation Project in Guangxi, is undertaken by the Sixth Geological Team in Guangxi. The Team started to explore the area in April 2011 and submitted the achievement report in June 2015 after two rounds of further explorations in 2011 and 2013 . 16 weathering crust ion adsorption type rare earth ore bodies were delineated, the rare earth resources of which reached the industrial grade . The deposit therefore can be defined as an extra-large rare earth deposit, the resources of which can be mined by a mining company with an annual capacity of 2 million tons for more than 100 years.
According to reports, the rare earth, which is known as industrial gold, is widely used in metallurgy, petrochemical, glass, ceramics and new materials, and plays a prominent role in agriculture development. Researches show that rare earth elements can increase chlorophyll content, enhance photosynthesis and promote root development . The newly discovered rare earth deposit will be of great importance to the development of China's strategic emerging industries.
