Chinese holmium oxide price moves up

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 1 Mar 16 - Most separation plants are still out of production at the moment, and just few of them separate yttrium concentrate. Affected by increasing inquiries in the spot market, Chinese holmium oxide 99.5%min prices rose by around RMB3/kg (USD0.5/kg) from those of one week ago to around RMB235-238/kg (USD35.9-36.3/kg) by cash payment. Most suppliers still hold watchful attitudes and insiders predicted that suppliers will continue to raise their offer in the coming week due to tight supply.
A producer in South China disclosed that current holmium oxide 99.5%min market saw increasing inquiries and price over the past week. “Current holmium oxide 99.5%min price stands at RMB238/kg (USD36.3/kg) by cash payment now, with an increase of RMB3/kg (USD0.5/kg) compared with that of one week ago,” said the producer, who disclosed that he sold around 1 ton of the material at RMB2,380/kg (USD36.3/kg) by cash payment last week. He also noted that he still has around 5 tons of stocks at the moment.
The producer, whose annual production capacity of holmium oxide 99.5%min is around 20 tons, usually produces around 1 tons of the material per month. The plant halted production since last October, and he said he still has no plan to resume production in the coming week.
A smelter in South China disclosed that he purchased around 3 tons of holmium oxide 99.5%min at RMB235/kg (USD35.9/kg) by cash payment in late last week, with an increase of RMB3/kg (USD0.5/kg) compared with that of one week ago. Moreover, some suppliers even offer holmium oxide 99.5%min at around RMB240/kg (USD36.6/kg) by cash payment. He said that the market supply is tight as only few separation plants produce holmium oxide 99.5%min due to thin profits. Thus he predicted that the price will rise a bit further in the coming week.
