MIIT in China rolls out list of rare earth group enterprises gaining government support

The reported large rare earth groups organization made great breakthrough and the China Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) rolled out the list of the six enterprises which have gained government support on January 9th, including three regional rare earth enterprises led by Baotou Steel Rare Earth and two state-owned enterprises, China Minmetals and Aluminum Corporation of China.
According to reports on Jan 9th of MIIT, the special session about organizing large rare earth groups was held in Beijing on Jan 8th, forming an industrial development pattern leading by 6 enterprises, including Baotou Steel, China Minmetals, Aluminum Corporation of China, Guangdong Rare Earth, Ganzhou Rare Earth and Xiamen Tungsten Industry, based on the market mechanism of surviving the superior and phasing out the inferior.
The current industrial pattern is as follows. Baotou Steel dominates the market in North China and the two stated-owned enterprises grasp the market in South China with China Minmetals in Hunan and Aluminum Corporation of China in Guangxi . As for regional corporations, Guangdong Rare Earth focuses on the acquisition of Rising Non-ferrous Metals and gains access to the market in Yunnan; Ganzhou Rare Earth acts as the platform of the consolidation of Jiangxi Rare Earth; and Xiamen Tungsten Industry has become the kernel of rare earth industry in Fujian
