Sliding prices in market of rare earth green phosphor

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 22 Oct 13 - Producers lower prices of rare earth green phosphor (shorted for “green phosphors”) as a result of the combination of downward rare earth raw material prices and weak demand from end users.
Asian Metal learnt from a source from phosphor powder plant in South China that the plant lowers prices of green phosphors to RMB420-440/kg (USD69-72/kg) now, down from RMB450/kg (USD74/kg) of one week ago. “Terbium oxide 99.99% price declines to RMB3,900/kg (USD640/kg) at the moment, down from RMB4,100/kg (USD673/kg) of ten days ago,” added the source.
The source, whose plant produces around 15 tons of green phosphors per month, also claimed that he is pessimistic about green phosphor market and he just sold small volume of the material at RMB420/kg (USD69/kg) recently.
A source from another phosphor powder plant in South China also shared with Asian Metal that demand from end users keeps weak along with rare earth raw material prices begin to decline lead green phosphors prices to show downward tendencies. The source quotes RMB450/kg (USD74/kg) for green phosphors for the time being and he can accept a bit price declines if buyers have intention to make purchases.
“I learnt that some sellers are even selling green phosphors at RMB400/kg (USD65.5/kg) now,” added the source, who also noted that the plant produces around 20 tons of green phosphors per month and his suppliers quote RMB3,900/kg (USD640/kg) for terbium oxide 99 . 99% now.
