Chinalco's Boffa project in Guinea reaches target production ahead of schedule

On June 18, Fangcheng port in Guangxi saw large ocean-going freighters loaded with 175,000 tons of bauxite from Chinalco's Boffa project in Guinea. It marks the bauxite project in Guinea reached target production two months ahead of schedule.
Boffa project has reserves of 2.41 billion tons of bauxite with about 1.75 billion tons to be exploited and a sustainable exploitation period of 60 years. The project mainly includes the mining system, independent power supply system, belt conveyor system and port loading system. The first phase with a total investment of about $585 million has an annual designed capacity of 12 million tons of bauxite.
The project was officially constructed on October 28, 2018. On-site mining operations were started on 6 October 2019. On April 6, 2020, the belt conveyor system ran successfully with heavy load of materials. At present, the monthly output of the project reached 1.1 million tons, successfully completing all construction and operation targets ahead of schedule.
