Shuikoushan Nonferrous Metals Group to suspend zinc ingot production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 20 Dec 18 - Hunan Shuikoushan Nonferrous Metals Group Co., Ltd. plans to halt zinc ingot production on 26 December, a source from the company revealed to Asian Metal.
"We will shut down the production line for zinc ingot on 26 December, and focus on producing lead ingot. Instead, Zhuzhou Smelter Group will be in charge of the zinc ingot production," the source disclosed.
Both Zhuzhou Smelter Group and Shuikoushan Nonferrous Metals Group belong to China Minmetals. According to the plan, Shuikoushan copper-lead-zinc industry base will be formally put into production on 26 December. Zhuzhou Smelter Group will wholly move to Shuikoushan area and operate a new zinc smelting project with a production capacity of 300,000tpy. The fourth branch of Shuikoushan Nonferrous Metals Group will halt the zinc production line with a production capacity of 100,000tpy. Besides, Shuikoushan Nonferrous Metals Group will upgrade the system for lead and precious metal production with a capacity of 100,000tpy. Furthermore, Minmetals Copper will expand the copper smelting capacity of 100,000py to 200,000tpy later. And then, the annual production capacity of China Minmetals will be "300,000t of copper + 300,000t of zinc + 100,000t of lead".
With a production capacity of 100,000tpy for zinc ingot, Shuikoushan Nonferrous Metals Group produced about 6,000t in November, and expects 5,000t in December, holding no inventory now.
This Wednesday, local mainstream prices for zinc ingot 99.995%min stood at RMB21,690-21,790/t (USD3,145-3,160/t), down by RMB160/t (USD23/t) from this Tuesday.
