Tungsten market keeps increasing

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 27 Apr 05 – Although many market participants believe tungsten market prices are surprisingly high, tungsten prices continue to increase.
“Current tungsten ore prices are quoted over RMB118,000/t,” a sales manager from a South China-based tungsten smelter reported to Asian Metal today. “Last week, we purchased some tungsten ore for RMB115,000/t with the quantity sufficient for five days’ production.” The smelter has no strong financial support, so it has to purchase in small batches.
“Our concluded price for tungsten powder [2.5-7micron] is RMB290/kg,” the manager said. The smelter hasn’t sold any tungsten APT these days but has consumed all of its output. The source disclosed that the concluded deal has reached RMB180,000/t for tungsten APT.
Another South China-based tungsten smelter said, “Currently, concluded prices of tungsten ore are close to RMB118,000/t.”
According to the source, the smelter concluded tungsten powder 2.5-7micron at over RMB328/kg. “Lower than RMB300/kg is impossible for us. Tungsten ore prices are so high.”
The smelter consumes most of its APT output, but if foreign buyers have interests, it quotes around USD250-260/mtu FOB CMP. “We heard that the price of USD230/mtu FOB CMP for tungsten APT was concluded practically,” the smelter
