Manganese flake export price declines

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 18 Apr 05 – The manganese flake export price has declined, following slipping domestic levels, industry participants reported to Asian Metal today.
“We just sold 120t of material for only USD1,460/t FOB yesterday,” a Hunan-based trader said. “Exports are really tough at the moment.” The source believes the current export price in the region is around USD1,450-1,480/t FOB .
A Shanxi-based trader confirmed that the export price has experienced a sharp decline since the beginning of this week. “We quoted foreign buyers at USD1,500/t FOB yesterday but we were refused,” said the source, adding that the concluded price was around USD1,530/t ten days ago .
A major manganese flake producer from Guizhou Province reported that no new export deals have been concluded during the past week. “We’ve received only a few inquiries at relatively low prices,” the source complained .
The smelter is fully running at a 10,000tpy production capacity with most of its output consumed in the Chinese domestic market at present.
According to the source, prevailing manganese flake export prices are around USD1,460-1,500/t FOB.
Industry insiders predict further slipping export prices in the following week.
