BEIJING (Asian Metal) 21 Aug 12 – Market participants reported to Asian Metal that Chinese tantalum scrap prices continue to go up from RMB1,400/kg (USD220/kg) to RMB1,420/kg (USD223/kg) VAT exclude for tantalum metal 80%, with the supply being tight still
One trader with a monthly dealing volume of about 2-3t shared with Asian Metal that domestic tantalum scraps (tantalum metal 80%) prices go up further to RMB1,420/kg (USD223/kg) VAT exclude, from RMB1,400/kg (USD220/kg) two weeks ago. “I would buy if there are sellers or materials in the market,” said the source, revealing that he would offer RMB1,420/kg (USD223/kg) VAT exclude or even higher to get raw materials now.
According to the source, he does not plan to sell after he processed tantalum scrap into purified materials, but to pile the materials and wait for the prices to boom as he heard that there is large quantity of demand from the military products industry.
Another minor scaled trader with the monthly trading volume of about 500-1,000kg also confirmed with Asian Metal that the tantalum scrap prices increased further from RMB1,400/kg (USD220/kg) VAT excluded to RMB1,420/kg (USD223/kg) VAT exclude. “At present, if I would sell, there certainly would be buyers,” noted the source, explaining that the tantalum scrap supply is also tight as the tantalum concentrate.
The source also revealed that his regular cooperator would buy materials at even higher prices but would not sell at present. “The country has reserve plan, we want to do a folk reservation plan in the local place,” said the source, predicting that the tantalum scrap prices would increase further.
