Chinese aluminum fluoride export market sluggish

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 12 Jul 12 – Influenced by the low aluminum on LME and softening demand, the aluminum fluoride market becomes weak not only in China but also in the world. Sources were not optimistic about the future market in the second half of 2012.
A buyer of aluminum fluoride from Singapore reported that they purchased around 10,000t of the material each year. “We mainly buy the material for the plant in Australia,” said the source, adding that the purchasing price is around USD1,300-1,400/t FOB China at present.
After learning that some Chinese exporters offered USD1,480/t FOB China for aluminum fluoride, the source complained that the offer was too high. “Aluminum on LME is very low and demand for aluminum fluoride in China is weak,” said the source, who expected the price to go down further.
Looking ahead, the source predicted that the export price may go down to below USD1,300/t in the near term. On the one hand, aluminum on LME may keep going down; and on the other hand, aluminum fluoride capacity in China is oversupply. In addition, the price for fluorspar price falls down.
A trader from China confirmed that they did not export aluminum fluoride in recent two months, as buyers from abroad insisted on low price, some even at USD1,300/t delivered. “We cannot accept the low prices in the world market,” said the source.
The trader is not optimistic about the future market and is not sure when to resume the export business. “Although some Chinese exporters hold high offer over USD1,400/t FOB China, it may not be concluded price,” said the source.
According to China Customs, the trader exported around 4,200t of aluminum fluoride in April.
