BEIJING (Asian Metal) 21 Jun 12 – In the beginning of the week, tungsten carbide powder price moved down due to sluggish demand and it decreased further on Wednesday with lower APT price.
A producer based in Jiangxi who has production capacity of 250 tons per month offers medium-sized tungsten carbide powder at RMB300/kg (USD47.6/kg), and would like to accept bid of RMB298/kg (USD47.3/kg) if consumers purchase materials in big volume of over ten tons. The source only holds few orders on hand which will be finished in the beginning of July, so he lowers offers by RMB2/kg (USD0.3/kg) on Wednesday. “We only have sold less than 10 tons of materials so far this week, and reduce monthly output by 40%,” the source said.
According to him, APT price is RMB189,000-190,000/t (USD339-341/mtu), down by RMB1,000/t (USD1.8/mtu) compared to Monday. Due to lower raw material price, tungsten carbide powder price goes down further. The source stated that the price has room to decrease, and will touch RMB290/kg (USD46.0/kg) in July.

The price of medium-sized tungsten carbide powder is RMB298-300/kg (USD47.3-47.6/kg), down by RMB2/kg (USD0.3/kg) on Wednesday. Most market participants foresee lower prices because sluggish downstream demand is hard to support the market in near term. Therefore, consumers hold watchful attitude towards short-term market.
