BEIJING (Asian Metal) 1 Mar 12 – Asian Metal learnt from China Customs that the export volume of silicon carbide in January was about 6,690t in January, down by 52% compared with quantity year-ago (13969t) of 2011.
As overseas consumers purchased large quantities of silicon carbide last December, they placed fewer orders in January, when it was the Chinese Lunar New Year.
The general consumption of silicon carbide decreased in the first quarter in different countries. For example, American output of crude steel declined slightly, and South Korean steel mills ran at 70-80% of full capacity. Japanese silicon wafer producers only ran at half of operating rate, so the demand for green silicon carbide powder also dropped.
Following is the top five countries/regions importing Chinese silicon carbide
Country/region Qu’ty(t) Unit price(USD/t)
Japan 3836 1885
South Korea 448 3300
Taiwan 694 3572
USA 416 1229
Norway 300 1535
