BEIJING (Asian Metal) 30 Oct 06 - Executives from Chinese electrolytic manganese smelters gathered in Changsha of China’s Hunan province last Sunday for another emergency meeting, discussing the current status of Chinese electrolytic manganese industry and the consequent influence of imposition of export tariffs on unwrought manganese metal which will take effect on Nov 1st.
As Chinese manganese industry has been going through hardships for a prolonged period, smelters will be unable to bear the extra cost resulting from the new tax regulation. A tentative agreement was reached at the meeting that the extra cost caused by the imposition of 15% export tax will be shouldered by foreign buyers on their own begining November 1.
