Chinese coal exports in August increases MoM

According to the latest data released by the General Administration of Customs China coal exports increased to 1.25 million tonnes in August up by 37.37% or 340,000 tonnes from 910,000 tonnes in July.
From January to August, China exported a total of 10.91 million tonnes of coal down by 17.5% or 2.32 million tonnes compared with the same period of last year. The export value amounted to USD 2.025 billion surging 37.5%YoY.
The National Development and Reform Commission have recently issued the second batch of coal export quotas for 2011 totaling 20 million tonnes.
The coal exporting enterprises involved include: China National Coal Group Corp., Shenhua Group Corporation Limited, Shanxi Coal Import & Export Group Co Ltd and China Minmetals Corporation.
Statistics also show that China exported 250,000 tonnes of coke and semi-coke in August up by 38.89% from the prior month. In the first eight months, coke and semi-coke exports amounted to 2.87 million tonnes, representing a YoY increase of 31.0%. The export value jumped 42%YoY to USD 1.307 billion.
