In addition, the European automobile industry has taken a dominant status in all over the world as for the application of magnesium alloy, and it is believed that the use of magnesium alloy in automobile industry will extend to some other areas around the world, which could increase the magnesium demands greatly.
At present, the world automobile output is 50 million, and the world magnesium output will increase by 50 million tons if the usage amounts of magnesium in automobiles rise by 10kg.
The magnesium alloy is mainly applies into automobiles’ structural units, and its qualities of thermostability and anti-creep make it could also be applied into some transmission components, such as cylinder and gear case. Then why the shares of magnesium alloy do not increase as it has so many advantages.
The company maintains that one reason for this phenomenon is because the magnesium alloy output is too concentrated. China’s magnesium supply occupies 80% in the world magnesium supply since it took the dominant position of magnesium output during 2000-2006, and the low energy and service costs as for China’s magnesium production in early time also makes its output to be competitive. However, China has strengthened its energy regulation forces in recent years, and the increase of the costs also shows a promising prospect in the aspect of origin diversification, which makes it possible to increase the applications of magnesium greatly in the future.
On the other hand, the company also maintains that there have certain inhibiting impacts on the application of magnesium with the rare earth price rising. The rare earth is usually used to improve the performances of magnesium alloy, and the results are also better than those of the aluminum alloy that is applied into some transmission components of automobiles.
