BEIJING (Asian Metal) 6 Aug 10 – According to statistics from China Iron and Steel Association (CISA), China’s steel export witnessed an increase in total volume but price decrease in the first half of this year.
The total export amounts of finished steel products and billet in H1 are 23.5797 million tons and 116,100 tons respectively, equivalent to 25
. 2009 million tons of crude steel, rising by 153 . 27% compared with that of last year.Nevertheless, the average export steel price is USD792.21/t (FOB), down USD298.25/t over the same period of the previous year with a year-on-year decrease of 27
. 35% . The average import steel price in H1 is USD1181.0/t (CFR), up USD42.35/t over the same period of last year with a year-on-year increase of 3 . 72%.As sources from CISA explained, China’s export of high value-added steel pipes decreased sharply in H1 due to importers’ anti-dumping duties and countervailing, but the export of low value-added products like HR sheet witnessed no obstacles and increased substantially.
Statistics show that from January to June this year, China's steel exports to the U.S
. accounted for only 2 . 05% of the total amount, decreasing by 5 . 24% over the same period of last year . Exports to the EU accounted for 8 . 1%, almost on the same level as that of last year. From July 15, China’s canceling some steel export tax rebate of 9% mainly involves low-end steel products such as hot rolled coil, section, strip with the width of 600mm or below and other varieties, which account for 45% of the toal export amount. In addition, because of the RMB appreciation, China’s export of these products will be surely inhibited but this is good to promote the restructuring of the steel industry.
