BEIJING (Asian Metal) 16 Aug 06 – Rare earth chloride (CeO2≤5% Nd2O3≥18%) prices rose to around RMB12,000/t (USD1,519/t) EXW over the past week. Meanwhile, consumers reported that market supply of the raw material becomes tighter.
“Due to the continuous markup of PrNd oxide, rare earth chloride prices rose to around RMB12,000/t (USD1,519/t) EXW with advanced payment,” said a source from a Hunan-based smelter.
As most rare earth oxide smelters could not purchase enough rare earth carbonate in North China, demand for rare earth chloride increased greatly over the past month, which has been raised by RMB5,000/t (USD633/t) from RMB7,000/t (USD886/t) EXW.
A source from a Sichuan-based smelter confirmed and said that the smelter halted to sell its rare earth chloride (CeO2≤5% Nd2O3≥18%) since a fortnight ago. “As PrNd oxide prices rose continuously, we only consume the rare earth chloride to produce PrNd oxide,” said the source . “We also need to purchase the rare earth chloride from other smelters sometimes.”
According to the source, spot prices for rare earth chloride (CeO2≤5% Nd2O3≥18%) have risen to around RMB11,500-12,000/t (USD1,456-1,519/t) EXW in the local market.
