Crude cadmium market lingering low

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 19 Jul 06 – Market participants told Asian Metal that not only the market of refined cadmium that is keeping weak, but also the crude cadmium market, with prices lingering at around RMB27/kg (USD1.27/lb) for 97-98% cadmium in China.
A producer of 70-80tpm capacity in Guizhou is offering RMB27/kg (USD1.27/lb) for cadmium 97-98% . “The market started to weaken in late May and the price is dropping bit by bit,” said the source, “Now there are few buyers coming for cadmium, and no one wants to buy in large amount . They only buy materials for a few days’ consumption . ”
Meanwhile, the source stated that few middlemen are dealing with cadmium right now. “No one wants to bet on cadmium again, it’s not a suitable time to speculate on the market,” said the source .
The source, who also produces certain amount of refined cadmium 99.99% now offers RMB36/kg (USD1.69/lb) for it, down from RMB37/kg (USD1.74/lb) compared to that of last week .
Crude cadmium consumers are also seeing a slow market.
“We recieve few orders this month, and we now need 20t of crude cadmium less than we used to use in the other months,” said a consumer in Zhejiang who now demands 50t of cadmium for producing alloys, “The cadmium market is also a bit quiet in summer.”
According to the source, he just purchased 20t of cadmium 99.9% for RMB27-28/kg (USD1 . 27-1.32/lb) from Guangdong . “Now suppliers are offering cadmium to us unsolicitedly, and it becomes easy to buy,” said the source, “But we need less cadmium now."
The source claimed that the current market price for cadmium 97-98% is around RMB27/kg (USD1.27/lb).
