BEIJING (Asian Metal) 27 Dec 05 – The antimony trioxide market remained slack during the past several weeks with prices continuing softening. Prompted by the decrease of the export tax rebate, some antimony trioxide producers plan to raise quotes, market sources reported to Asian Metal today
A Guangdong-based antimony trioxide producer reported that the smelter does not quote at the moment. “As the price of raw material, antimony ingot, has been quoted higher, we have to adjust the price of our product accordingly,” said the source . “However, we also have to be mindful to how buyers react to the tax revision.”
The source revealed that the current price of antimony trioxide in the local market is a little over RMB26,000/t delivered to ports. “However, the price of antimony ingot has surged up to RMB29,200/t ex works,” the source disclosed .
According the source, the smelter has halted production since over a month ago. With around 200t of materials in stock, the smelter plans to resume production after the Lunar New Year .
In view of the price increase of raw materials and the decrease of the tax rebate, a Yunnan-based antimony trioxide producer also plans to raise quotes before long. According to the source, the smelter’s current quotation for materials grading 99.8% is around RMB26,800/t ex works . However, the source believes that the market of antimony trioxide will continue to be dull in the following two weeks as both Chinese and foreign market participants are absent for holidays.
