On October 31, phase II of the 450,000tpy primary aluminum project in Dak Nong, Vietnam, constructed under an EPC contract by China Nonferrous Metal Industry's Foreign Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd. (NFC), produced its first batch of molten primary aluminum. This milestone was achieved 4 months and 3 days ahead of the contractual schedule for the first aluminum tapping, marking Phase II's official transition from construction to trial production.
As Vietnam's first primary aluminum project, it realizes the large-scale production of primary aluminum domestically for the first time in the country. The project promotes the export of Chinese standards and equipment and ends Vietnam's history of having no domestic primary aluminum capacity.
Moving forward, NFC will steadily advance the baking and start-up of the remaining electrolytic cells to gradually unlock the 150,000tpy capacity of phase II.
