China's first national-level near-zero-carbon electric arc furnace (EAF) short-process steelmaking demonstration project has been put into operation at Jingjiang Special Steel, a subsidiary of CITIC Special Steel.
The project adopts a "100% green electricity + 100% scrap steel + super EAF" near-zero-carbon steelmaking model, achieving over 90% carbon emission reductions compared with traditional long-process steelmaking. Its raw material is recycled steel--scrap sourced from end-of-life vehicles and decommissioned equipment.
To date, the project has developed 86 low-carbon green steel grades. Its low-carbon green products have been certified by multiple global benchmark companies and multinational supply chains, and it now has an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons of low-carbon special steel.
