Metro Mining Limited, an Australia-based exploration and mining company, reported shipments of 659,000 wet metric tonnes (WMT) of bauxite from its Bauxite Hills Mine in Far North Queensland during September 2026. The performance brought year-to-date shipment volumes to 4.013 million WMT.
Mid-month operational constraints restricted barging capacity after a sand-bank collapse reduced the channel depth from 1.8 meters to 1.3 meters. In addition, high staff turnover and absenteeism impacted mining equipment utilization during a period requiring increased stripping volumes.
Transhipping capacity strengthened as the offshore floating terminal Ikamba achieved target loading rates near 2,400 tonnes per hour, supported by the return of the floating crane TSA Skardon from maintenance.
