Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has resumed shipping Guinean bauxite to the United Arab Emirates under a renewed supply agreement that permits deliveries of up to 4.9 million tonnes per year until 2044.
The deal comes after EGA, its Guinea Alumina Corporation subsidiary, and the Guinean government reached a settlement resolving earlier disputes that had disrupted bauxite exports.
Bauxite from Guinea is critical to EGA's aluminium production. EGA is the largest aluminium producer in the Middle East and accounts for roughly 4% of global output.
The renewed agreement with Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinée follows the settlement between EGA, its Guinea Alumina Corporation subsidiary, and the Guinean government over disputes that had halted GAC's operations and interrupted bauxite supplies.
Under the agreement, the first shipment of approximately 66,000 tonnes was loaded onto a Panamax vessel at Kamsar in late August and is now en route to the UAE, the company said.
