Global alumina production climbed 3.3% month-on-month to 13.02 million tonnes in July, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute (IAI). However, the figure was down 2% from 13.28 million tonnes a year earlier, the report showed.
On a daily average basis, global alumina output edged slightly lower to 420,100 tonnes in July, compared with revised data of 420,200 tonnes in June, the data showed. In China, alumina production increased to 7.83 million tonnes in July from 7.58 million tonnes in June. China's output, which accounts for more than 60% of global alumina production, fell nearly 2% year-on-year, according to the data.
Alumina production in Oceania rose nearly 11% month-on-month to 1.56 million tonnes in July. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, alumina output increased 1% month-on-month to 1.14 million tonnes. In Europe, including Russia, alumina production declined nearly 4% to 600,000 tonnes in July. Output in North America rose to 168,000 tonnes in July from 157,000 tonnes a month earlier. South America, meanwhile, saw production fall to 998,000 tonnes in July from 1 million tonnes in the previous month, the data showed.
