Saudi aluminium demand set to double within five to seven years, Maaden says

Saudi Arabia's aluminium demand could climb to 1.8 million metric tons per year by 2030, up from 1 million metric tons currently, and double within five to seven years, an executive from Saudi Arabian Mining Co, or Maaden, said on Wednesday.
Ahmad al-Alshaikh, Maaden's executive vice president for aluminium, said demand is being driven by Saudi Arabia's hosting of major expositions as well as the 2034 football World Cup, which will involve the construction of 15 new stadiums.
Saudi aluminium demand is expected to reach 1.6 million to 1.8 million tons by 2030, al-Alshaikh said on the sidelines of the Fastmarkets International Aluminium Conference in Budapest.
Maaden produces around 780,000 tons of primary aluminium per year and around 1 million tons of cast metal. Of that output, 85% is sold on the domestic market.
