China's foreign trade value up 17.6% in Jan-Aug

China's total imports and exports of goods reached RMB34.78 trillion (USD5.18 trillion) in the first eight months of 2026, a year-on-year increase of 17.6%, according to customs statistics. Exports amounted to RMB20.17 trillion (USD3.01 trillion), up 14.6%, while imports stood at RMB14.61 trillion (USD2.18 trillion), rising 22%.
In August alone, the country's foreign trade value grew 19.8% year-on-year to RMB4.65 trillion (USD692.89 billion). Exports and imports rose 18.6% and 21.7%, respectively, with both posting double-digit growth for four consecutive months. Imports outpaced exports in monthly year-on-year growth for six straight months.
