Chile's copper output drops 9.4% in July amid severe weather disruptions

Chile, the world's largest copper producer, saw its copper output fall by 9.4% year-over-year in July, as severe storms battered key mining regions, according to data released Monday by the country's statistics agency, INE.
Production totaled 403,424 metric tons for the month, down from 445,322 metric tons recorded in July of the previous year.
The decline in both mining extraction and processing was attributed to "adverse weather conditions in the northern part of the country, which disrupted normal production operations," INE stated in its report.
The agency also noted that maintenance activities were carried out at major sites within the crucial mining sector during July, further contributing to the reduced output.
