Global stainless steel production posts year-on-year growth in H1 2026

Global stainless steel melt shop output reached 33 million metric tons in the first half of 2026, marking a 5% increase compared to the same period last year, according to data from the World Stainless Association.
The growth was largely driven by Asia, which produced 28.3 million tons-accounting for nearly 86% of total global output-reflecting a 6.1% year-on-year rise. China remained the dominant force, contributing 63.9% of worldwide production.
In contrast, the European Union saw its output decline by 3.7% to 2.9 million tons. Meanwhile, the United States recorded a 2.3% increase in production to 1.1 million tons, bolstered by its strong dependence on recycled metal feedstocks.
