Tsingshan considers major capacity expansion at Zimbabwe steel plant

Tsingshan Holding Group is weighing a significant expansion of production at its Manhize Steel Plant in Zimbabwe, which began operations in 2024.
The facility currently produces approximately 600,000 tonnes of steel annually, while the company is evaluating the potential to increase capacity to as much as 2 million tonnes.
Benson Xu, CEO of Tsingshan's Zimbabwe operations, stated that the company is initially prioritizing the expansion of its steel product portfolio before ramping up production volumes.
Around 40% of the output from the Manhize plant is sold domestically in Zimbabwe, with the remainder exported primarily to South Africa, Malawi, and Zambia. The plant is situated approximately 205 kilometres southeast of Harare and represents one of Tsingshan's key steel production investments in Africa.
