Global DRI output falls 10.1% year-on-year in July 2026

Global direct reduced iron (DRI) production among the 12 countries that together accounted for approximately 85% of worldwide output in 2025 totaled 9.87 million metric tons in July 2026, according to data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel). This represents a month-on-month increase of 0.6% but a year-on-year decline of 10.1%.
In the first seven months of 2026, cumulative global DRI production reached 71.49 million metric tons, down 2.6% compared with the same period in 2025.
Among the surveyed countries, India remained the largest DRI producer in July 2026, with output of 5.02 million metric tons. It was followed by Iran (2.5 million mt), Egypt (623,000 mt), and Russia (600,000 mt) during the month.
