Global crude steel production edges down 0.3% in July 2026

According to data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel), global crude steel production totaled 149.2 million metric tons in July 2026, reflecting a marginal year-on-year decline of 0.3 percent. Over the first seven months of the year, output reached 1.08 billion metric tons, down 0.6 percent compared to the same period in 2025.
Regional Performance:
Asia & Oceania: Output fell by 1.2 percent to 109.4 million metric tons. While Chinese production contracted by 3.6 percent to 76.9 million metric tons, other major producers in the region recorded gains: Japan (up 0.4% to 6.9 million mt), India (up 1.9% to 14.4 million mt), and South Korea (up 6.4% to 5.7 million mt).
Europe: The EU-27 saw a robust increase of 3.8 percent, producing 10.5 million metric tons. Germany contributed 2.8 million metric tons, a gain of 3.0 percent year-on-year.
Turkey: Output rose sharply by 7.0 percent to 3.4 million metric tons.
North America: Production totaled 9.6 million metric tons, up 4.9 percent year-on-year, driven largely by the United States, which produced 7.4 million metric tons-a 4.4 percent increase.
