The Kyrgyz government has extended its temporary ban on exports of ferrous metal scrap, waste, and remelting scrap ingots for another six months, according to local media reports.

The new resolution will take effect ten days following its official publication. The export restriction itself will become applicable three days after the resolution enters into force and will remain in place for a duration of six months.

Concurrently, the government will repeal Resolution No. 117 dated February 18, 2026, which had introduced the previous temporary restriction on ferrous scrap and remelting ingot exports.Asian Metal Copyright The export restriction itself will become applicable three days after the resolution enters into force and will remain in place for a duration of six months.Asian Metal Copyright The new decision effectively prolongs the existing restriction for an additional six-month period.

The measure is designed to ensure the continued availability of ferrous scrap for Kyrgyzstan's domestic metal processing industry. The country is home to five major enterprises with their own foundry operations-namely MetalKen, Asia Steel, MPZ Funze, Lahore Steel Mills, and Vulkan Plus-which collectively possess an annual processing capacity of approximately 490,000 metric tons.
