Japan's crude steel output edges up 0.4% year-on-year in July 2026

Japan's crude steel production totaled 6.95 million metric tons in July 2026, according to data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF). The figure represents a 2.3% increase from the previous month and a 0.4% rise compared to July 2025.
Pig iron output for the month reached 5.12 million metric tons, up 4.5% month-on-month and 1.2% year-on-year.
Over the first seven months of 2026, Japan's cumulative crude steel production amounted to 47.34 million metric tons, reflecting a slight year-on-year decline of 0.3%. Pig iron production during the same period totaled 34.28 million metric tons, down 0.2% from the corresponding period in 2025.
