Japan's HRP and HRS shipments decline 3.7% month-on-month in June 2026

In June 2026, Japan's shipments of hot-rolled plate and sheet totaled 627,554 metric tons, down 3.7% from the previous month and 5.1% lower than the 660,939 metric tons recorded in June 2025, according to data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF). Domestic destinations accounted for 75.6% of total shipments during the month, while exports made up the remaining 24.4%. Production of hot-rolled plate and sheet in June stood at 645,031 metric tons, reflecting an 8.3% decline month-on-month but a 9.2% increase year-on-year.
Meanwhile, Japan's hot-rolled strip shipments in June reached 1.18 million metric tons, down 9.9% from May and 2.6% lower year-on-year. Of this total, 29.6% was directed to the domestic market, while 70.4% was exported overseas. Production of hot-rolled strip for the month amounted to 1.15 million metric tons, marking a 14.2% decrease month-on-month and a 25% drop compared to June 2025.
