Japan imposes provisional anti-dumping duties of up to 55% on Chinese, South Korean galvanized steel

Japan has imposed provisional anti-dumping duties ranging from 29.2% to 55.3% on hot-dip galvanised steel coil, sheet and strip imported from China and South Korea, effective from August 8, 2026, through December 7, 2026.
The measure, announced Tuesday by Japan's trade and finance ministries, is designed to protect domestic steelmakers from unfairly priced imports. Products originating from Hong Kong and Macau are exempt from the duties.
These corrosion-resistant steel products are widely used in construction applications-including guardrails, housing and fencing-as well as in appliances such as refrigerators.
The action follows a year-long investigation triggered by a petition filed in April 2025 by Nippon Steel, Kobe Steel and Yodoko, which argued that cheap imports had depressed their pricing power in the domestic market.
