GEM (Wuxi) Energy Materials Co., Ltd. has received regulatory approval for its high performance solid state battery cathode and electrolyte materials pilot and industrialization base, according to an announcement on the official website of the Wuxi Municipal Data Bureau on July 29.
The project, located at No. 50 Xin Dong'an Road, Shuofang Street, Xinwu District, Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, involves a total investment of RMB120 million (USD17.77 million). It will occupy 3,280 square metres of vacant space on the first floor of a leased plant within the company's southern site, owned by Wuxi Shuofang Economic Development Co., Ltd. The facility is designed as an integrated hub for R&D, pilot scale trials and mass production of solid state battery materials.
The base will have a R&D and production capacity of 500tpy of solid state battery materials, comprising 499.9tpy of cathode materials and 0.1tpy of electrolyte. Upon completion, the southern plant's overall output will include 10,150tpy of ternary materials (10,000tpy from full scale lines and 150tpy from pilot lines), 16,900tpy of high energy density ternary materials, 1.362 million electronic and electrical components and motor reduction parts per year and 50,000 units of 4Ah polymer lithium ion pouch cells annually for development and testing purposes.
