State-owned tin miner Timah reported on Wednesday a significant surge in its first-half tin production and sales, driven by robust demand and climbing global tin prices.
During the January–June period, tin ore output rose 75% year-on-year to 12,232 metric tons of contained tin (Sn), up from 6,997 tons in the same period last year. The increase was supported by productivity improvements and expanded operations across offshore dredging vessels, floating production units, and partner-operated onshore mines.
Refined tin production grew 58% to 10,865 metric tons, compared with 6,870 metric tons a year earlier.
Tin metal sales jumped 85% to 10,984 metric tons, from 5,933 metric tons in the prior-year period, benefiting from inventory optimization aimed at meeting market demand.
Exports accounted for 97% of total tin sales during the period, while domestic sales made up the remaining 3%.
China remained Timah's largest export destination, capturing 36% of overseas shipments. Other key markets included India (12%), South Korea (11%), Singapore (6%), and the Netherlands and Italy (5% each).
