Selkirk Copper Mines Inc. announced Wednesday morning that its Minto Mine in the Yukon has expanded its highest-confidence resource base to nearly one billion pounds of copper---a figure that nearly triples last year's estimate. The upgrade comes at a critical moment when North American supply chain planners are racing to secure copper sources that bypass reliance on Mongolian overland corridors and Chinese smelting dominance.
The company released its 2026 Mineral Resource Estimate today, establishing Measured and Indicated resources of 47.8 million tonnes at the Minto Mine---a 280% increase in tonnage over the 2025 estimate. At an average grade of 0.89% copper, 0.34 grams per tonne gold, and 3.2 grams per tonne silver, the Measured and Indicated categories alone contain 940 million pounds of copper, 530,000 ounces of gold, and 4.97 million ounces of silver---representing increases of 182%, 184%, and 188%, respectively, over the previous estimate.
The updated estimate also includes an additional 16.9 million tonnes of Inferred resources, carrying a further 281 million pounds of copper, 142,000 ounces of gold, and 1.5 million ounces of silver.
