Eastern Steel commissions 650,000 mt Temper Mill in Malaysia

Malaysian steelmaker Eastern Steel Sdn. Bhd. has commissioned a new temper mill aimed at enhancing the quality of its hot-rolled products and broadening its higher-value-added product portfolio, according to Chinese media reports.
The facility began operations on July 20, following an 11-month construction period. It has an annual capacity of 650,000 metric tonnes and is capable of producing temper-rolled strip in thicknesses ranging from 1.2 mm to 6.0 mm, as well as recoiled products with thicknesses of 1.2 mm to 12.0 mm.
During initial trials, the mill successfully produced its first coil, with dimensional accuracy, surface quality, and mechanical properties all meeting design specifications. The new facility is expected to improve strip flatness and surface finish, diversify Eastern Steel's hot-rolled product offering, and support the company's entry into higher-quality end-use applications.
Eastern Steel broke ground on the project on August 11, 2025, and completed equipment installation, commissioning, and performance testing within the planned timeframe. The company currently operates Malaysia's only domestic hot-rolled coil production line at its Kemaman complex in Terengganu.
