  • Australia's Generation Steel expands green steel project with new rebar facility

Australian steelmaker Generation Steel-formerly known as Green Steel of WA-has unveiled revised plans for its proposed green steel plant in Collie, raising the total project value to A$850 million with the addition of a new cut-and-bend facility.

According to Generation Steel, the Collie plant will have an annual production capacity of 450,000 metric tonnes of ultra-low-emission rebar, which would boost Australia's domestic rebar production capacity by roughly one-third.

The facility is expected to commence operations in 2028 and is designed to run entirely on 100% renewable energy and 100% Australian recycled scrap steel from day one of production.
