  • Norilsk Nickel reports 2% decline in first-half nickel production

    2026-07-28 11:42:48   [Print]
In the first half of 2026, Norilsk Nickel recorded a 2% year-on-year decline in nickel production, bringing output to 85,000 tonnes, according to a company statement.

The decrease was primarily attributed to equipment maintenance activities, including major repairs to the depletion furnace at the Nadezhdinsky Metallurgical Plant carried out between February and April, as well as the higher comparative base from the first half of 2025.

The Group also reported a 5% reduction in copper production, which fell to 203,000 tonnes. This decline was driven by the need to replenish work-in-progress inventory at the Copper Plant, coupled with a stronger performance base in the same period of the previous year.

In contrast, the Zabaikalsky division posted a 2% increase in copper output, reaching 36,000 tonnes, supported by improved copper recovery rates due to higher metal content in the processed ore.

MMC Norilsk Nickel is a diversified mining and metallurgical company and the world's largest producer of palladium and high-quality nickel, as well as significant quantities of platinum, copper, cobalt, silver, gold, and iridium. The company's production facilities are located across the Norilsk Industrial District, the Kola Peninsula, and the Trans-Baikal Territory in Russia, as well as in Finland.
