Hyundai Steel to break ground on $5.8 billion Louisiana EAF mill in September

South Korea's Hyundai Steel is set to hold a groundbreaking ceremony on September 4 for its $5.8 billion electric arc furnace (EAF)-based integrated steel mill in Louisiana, marking the official start of major construction activities for the project.
The facility, which will have an annual production capacity of 2.8 million tonnes, is being jointly developed by Hyundai Steel and POSCO at the RiverPlex MegaPark in Ascension Parish. Commercial operations are expected to commence in 2029. The mill will focus on producing low-carbon, high-value-added automotive steel, supplying both Hyundai Motor Group's U.S. operations and other automakers across North America.
