Japan sets preliminary antidumping duties on HDG imports from China and South Korea

The Japanese government has issued a preliminary ruling that hot-dip galvanized steel strip and sheet imports from China and South Korea were sold at unfairly low prices, causing material injury to the domestic steel industry.
As a result, preliminary antidumping duty margins have been set at 63.95–68.67% for Chinese imports and 32.49–42.69% for South Korean imports. The Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) stated that the investigation is being conducted independently in accordance with World Trade Organization (WTO) rules. The federation called on the government to promptly impose provisional measures and accelerate the final determination in order to address the inflow of unfairly traded imports.
The JISF further emphasized that Japan's steel industry will continue to monitor unfair trade practices across a broader range of steel products and will pursue additional trade remedies when deemed necessary.
