World crude steel output rises 1.7% year-on-year in June 2026

Global crude steel production reached 155.7 million tonnes in June 2026, marking a 1.7% increase compared to the same month last year, according to data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel). In the first half of 2026, total worldwide output fell 0.7% year-on-year to 931.5 million tonnes.
In Asia and Oceania, June production totaled 115.2 million tonnes, up 1.5% year-on-year. China contributed 83.7 million tonnes (+0.4%), Japan produced 6.8 million tonnes (+1.3%), and India recorded 14.1 million tonnes (+4.5%). South Korea's output, however, edged down 0.9% to 5.3 million tonnes.
The EU-27 bloc produced 10.8 million tonnes of crude steel in June, reflecting a 4.6% annual increase. Germany, the region's largest producer, posted output of 2.9 million tonnes-a notable 9.5% rise compared with June 2025.
In North America, crude steel production totaled 9.5 million tonnes in June, up 5.0% year-on-year. The United States accounted for 7.2 million tonnes of that total, representing a 3.5% increase over the prior-year period.
