Spanish steel output rises 10.2% in May 2026 from April

Spanish crude steel production reached 1.05 million tonnes in May 2026, marking a 10.2% increase compared with the previous month, according to data released by the Spanish steelmakers association UNESID. On a year-on-year basis, however, output declined 8.1% from May 2025 levels.
In the first five months of 2026, Spain's total steel production amounted to 4.58 million tonnes, down from 5.55 million tonnes recorded in the same period of the prior year.
During May, the Spanish steel industry recycled 823,000 tonnes of scrap for use in new steel products, representing a 2.8% decrease month-on-month and an 11.5% decline year-on-year. For the January–May period, cumulative scrap recycling totaled 4.0 million tonnes.
