Japanese crude steel output rises 1.3% year-on-year in June 2026

Japan's crude steel production totaled 6.80 million metric tons in June 2026, down 2.1% from the previous month but up 1.3% compared with June 2025, according to data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF).
In the same month, the country's pig iron production reached 4.90 million metric tons, reflecting a 2.8% month-on-month decline and a 3.1% year-on-year increase.
Over the first half of this year, Japan's cumulative crude steel output stood at 40.40 million metric tons, down 0.4% year-on-year, while pig iron production totaled 29.16 million metric tons, also registering a 0.4% decrease compared with the same period last year.
