Total Graphite pauses Vatomina production to prioritise optimisation and growth projects

Total Graphite has announced a temporary suspension of operations at its Vatomina mine in Madagascar, as the company shifts focus to completing optimisation work at the site while advancing its larger-scale development initiatives in Mozambique.
The graphite mining and processing company will now concentrate on implementing improvements identified in an independent technical review at Vatomina, which highlighted opportunities for enhancements in drilling, mine planning, infrastructure upgrades, and plant performance. Subject to drilling progress, the company aims to resume production at a rate exceeding 1,000 tonnes per month from December.
Complementing the existing resource base, Total Graphite has also referenced SRK Consulting's Competent Person's Report, completed in March, which estimated an exploration target of 18 to 20 million tonnes at Vatomina with a 4% graphitic content.
Meanwhile, work continues on the definitive feasibility study (DFS) for the Montepuez project in Mozambique, where Total Graphite plans a first-phase operation with an annual production capacity of 50,000 tonnes.
