Vietnam's first-ever primary aluminum smelter-located in the Nhan Co Industrial Park in Dak Nong Province-successfully produced its inaugural batch of metal on July 10, 2026. The facility's first phase has an annual capacity of 150,000 tons, with plans to expand to 300,000 tons in early 2027 and reach 450,000 tons by late 2027 or 2028.
Leveraging Vietnam's abundant bauxite reserves, the project represents a significant milestone in the country's efforts to build a fully integrated aluminum value chain---spanning bauxite mining, alumina refining, and primary aluminum production. The new smelter is expected to boost domestic alumina consumption and reduce Vietnam's reliance on imported primary aluminum.
